CHAPTER SIXTY EIGHT – THE INTERVIEW AND TRAINING
The walk to Fierro's Place wasn't long, giving Laura time to collect her thoughts and go over her cover story one last time. As the restaurant came into view, its bright red and yellow sign standing out against the blue sky, Laura squared her shoulders and pushed open the door.
The smell of frying oil and spices hit her immediately, along with the buzz of conversation from the morning crowd. A perky young woman behind the counter looked up as Laura approached.
"Welcome to Fierro's! What can I get for you today?" she asked with a practiced smile.
Laura cleared her throat. "Actually, I'm here about the job opening. I was told to ask for the manager?"
The woman's smile became more genuine. "Oh, sure thing! Let me go grab Mr. Fierro for you."
As Laura waited, she scanned the restaurant, taking in every detail. She noticed a young man working the grill, his back to her. Could that be Tyler, Margaret's grandson?
