As the days wore on, Laura became increasingly aware of the undercurrents of tension running through the compound. She noticed the way certain werewolves clustered together in hushed conversations, the sideways glances and meaningful nods. The divide between Logan's supporters and those who seemed to favor Xyon became more apparent.
One evening, as Laura was helping in the kitchen, she overheard two of the cooks discussing the situation.
"Things can't go on like this," one of them muttered, glancing around to make sure they weren't overheard. "The pack is fracturing. Something's got to give."
The other nodded grimly. "Logan needs to take action soon, or he'll lose control entirely. Carter's pack isn't going to wait forever."
