Chapter 72
I had underestimated Abigail's sheer persistence. She just sat outside to wait after seeing that I didn't respond. She kept calling, trying to get me to answer, and when I didn't, she switched to sending texts.
"Samuel, I know you're home. If you don't open the door, I'll sit here until you do."
Reading her messages, I felt a wave of irritation. We'd already had a bitter argument—why come looking for me again? She was like a fly that wouldn't leave, buzzing around and getting under my skin.
Wasn't she supposed to be with Joshua; comforting her little lover? Why on earth was she at my doorstep? Maybe she got into a fight with him and decided to come here to vent her frustrations.
After thinking about it for a while, I finally gave in and opened the door. Leaning against the frame, Abigail nearly fell inside as the door opened. She looked at me, startled, then suddenly wrapped herself around my legs, relief and excitement flashing in her eyes. "Samuel, you finally opened the door."
