Chapter 27
The cemetery was a place Zack used to bring me often.
He'd told me never to forget my mother and that she had loved me and would have sacrificed anything for me.
I don't remember what she looked like, nor do I remember much about how she cared for me. But I knew Zack was right.
If there was anyone in this world who had truly cared about me, it had to be her.
Every time I came to visit her grave, it helped ease some of the weight in my heart.
I knelt in front of her headstone, placed the flowers I'd brought, and lit a small candle. Tears rolled down my cheeks, one after another.
I didn't know how much longer I had left, and I worried that once I was gone, no one would come to visit her anymore. The thought of her being forgotten hurt me deeply.
All I could do was make sure, while I was still alive, to honor her memory, to leave nothing unresolved.
After leaving the cemetery, I hailed a cab to go back home.
But just as I got in the car, my phone rang. It was Joshua.
