Chapter 33: Conclusions

Not wanting to stay around and interrupt a moment I thought was a conversation, I walked away silently and back to the cottage where I forced myself to go back to sleep. I would ask her in the morning, I thought to myself as sleep finally claimed me very early in the morning.
"I didn't hear you come inside last night," I told Ariel the morning after. She simply handed me the basket without saying a word.
I practically hurried to the morning glory spot and packed as many as I could without even cutting them properly. She would scold me later, I thought to myself as I hurried back to the cottage.
"Ariel?" I called out softly when I got back. She was sleeping, lounged on her couch with a pipe beside her and the poker in one hand. "Ariel?" I called out softly once more.
Her eyes fluttered open, and she looked at me with a calm that I envied. "Yes, Talia?"
