Apparently, according to her, I was now property of the Pack and would be properly educated about it. Of course, I had no issue with that. It wasn’t my first rodeo being monitored. I didn’t mind her; she was nice and brought interesting food of different colors that tasted savory.
“There are seven for a reason,” she said. “In the Plains, we have at least fifty tribes. Some tribes have tribes within them; some might have complex languages that are variations of the main language. But they’re not all minor and useless,” she said. “They all have a role to play. All of them, Talia,” she said gently, “were picked by Baron the Conqueror.
He supposedly did it in a moment of lack of consideration, but he decided he didn’t want eight or four or six. He chose seven because of geography. The weather in the Plains is the same all over, whereas the desert has always been different.
