Chapter 7

AMY This wasn’t my bed, I told myself as my eyes slowly opened to the evening rays illuminating the room from the window above. How did I get here? I asked myself and the memories came flooding. “Clara!” I gasped tearfully as I sat up immediately. “Finally,” his deep baritone chorused, almost startling me. “Logan,” I whispered. There he was, standing a few feet before my bed with his arms crossed. He had changed into a white shirt and a pair of blue jeans. I looked down and realized I was wearing an oversized white t-shirt and shorts. I quickly checked my stomach but my injuries were all healed up. I frowned, wondering how I had healed up so fast. “If you’re wondering who changed your clothes, Silvia did. She’s a doctor, kind of,” he explained and I peered at him suspiciously. “How long have you been standing here?” “I came in a few minutes ago to check up on you.” My eyes squinted at him for a brief moment. There was no way I could trust him. What if he had done something to me? “You think I’m lying?” He came closer. “Stay back!” I flinched and he scoffed. “I saved you and here you are giving me looks like I’m a monster.” “I don’t trust you.” “You are my mate!” “The last thing I need is a mate!” His eyes flamed in anger but I didn't care. The only thing I craved was justice for my pack, my family. Love wasn’t going to give me that. “Where am I?” He hesitated. “Outside town.” “My family,” I said as I alighted off the bed weakly. “I need to go back and find them.” “It’s not safe there, I won’t allow you to go back.” He moved as if to block me. “I just lost Clara and I don’t even know what state my brother and Gabriel are in at all because some rogues decided to be mass murderers!” Tears graced my eyes again but he didn’t even flinch in the slightest. I doubt he even cared with that bland look of his. “Get out of my way, please.” He inhaled deeply before pulling out a phone from his pocket; it was mine. “While you were unconscious, your phone kept ringing.” He handed it to me and I briskly checked the notifications—my brother. He had sent a couple of texts too, stating he was in the hospital with Gabriel critically injured. My fingers began to tremble as I dialed his number but unfortunately, his phone was switched off. “They’re at the hospital, I have to go!” He blocked my path again. “I told you. As long as that town isn’t safe, I’m not letting you leave.” “My family is in danger, I need to see them!” “They’re at the hospital, they’ll be fine.” “No they won’t! The rogue who attacked me knew who I was. Clara is dead, who knows if they’ll go after Blake and Gabriel.” He frowned. “I'll send my guards to keep watch or most likely we’ll transport them to my pack.” “You can’t do that.” I shook my head. “They don’t know that I’m a werewolf.” His frown deepened. “I don’t understand.” I sat on the edge of the bed with a heavy sigh following suit. “When I was little, Rogues came to attack my pack and I lost everyone. I was the only survivor and then I got adopted by this family,” My lips pursed as I remembered Clara’s smile. If only I knew today was the last time I would see it, I could have done better. “And once again, Rogues came. Clara is dead, my foster father is critically injured and my brother, broken...“ A tear trickled down my cheek. “Maybe it’s my fault. Maybe the whole town fair incident is because of me.“ “Hey.” He knelt so he could hug me. I gripped his back so tight hoping the burning pain would die but his embrace did only so little. “I have to see them, Logan. I don’t want to lose another family again! I don’t—“ “I promise you, I’ll keep your family safe,” he said but I couldn’t bring myself to believe those words. He separated from me, carefully wiping the tears that lingered on my cheek. “What happened today is not your fault.“ “It doesn’t matter how many times you say that, I can’t bring myself to accept it.” I sniffed. “You have no idea how much I’ve craved revenge for my parents, my pack. I haven’t even avenged my fallen pack members yet and this happens. I won’t rest until I slaughter the last of those bastards who did this.” “You are weak,” he mumbled as he arose. “You won’t even stand a chance against one of them, let alone multitudes.” “I don’t care!” I blurted angrily. “Even if it costs me my last breath, I am going to destroy those rogues!” “You can’t do it alone, but I can help you get justice,” he replied. “I can find the bastards behind your pack’s incident and today’s event won’t be forgotten either. I’ll train you, make you a force to be reckoned with. In return, you will be my Luna.” I frowned. “You have to understand you can’t stay with your foster family any longer,” he explained. “They’re humans and staying with them will only put them in trouble and they’ll only be a distraction. So what do you say, Amy Lockwood?” He extended his hand. I stared deeply into those golden eyes. To be honest, I wasn’t ready to be Luna. Or better said, I didn’t want to be one. But if achieving my goal meant I had to be one and desert my foster family, then it was a deal I was willing to take. I took his hand and he nodded. “We’re leaving for my pack tonight.”
