“Don’t blame yourself,” Sarah mumbled beside me. Both of us were dressed in black coats alongside the Pack Elders and a few others. Sarah and I maintained our distance from the cemeteries of the five guards.
“How can I not? The battle happened because of me. Because of me, that woman is completely broken,” I pointed to the middle aged lady crying profusely on one of the guards' graves. The man was probably her mate. “Five people lost their lives because of me. These people had families and today, those families are in pain all because of me. It’s mercy enough that I’m blaming myself.”
She patted my back, “none of them blames you. They are warriors after all. They and their families knew what they signed up for. The moment you choose to become a warrior, you’ve signed your death contract.”
“I know, it's just…” My voice trailed off, unable to take my eyes off that lady in particular. She reminded me of how I was when Clara died.
“It’s unfair,” Sarah concluded with a sigh foll
