Chapter 18

LOGAN I clapped my hands twice, and the lights went off, and then I pulled the blanket up to my shoulders, sleeping on the opposite side of the bed. A smile graced my lips, not because I finally got to sleep on my bed again but because my plans were working perfectly-Amy was already falling for my charms. Very soon, I was going to break this curse and be done with her. That alone gave me joy or so I thought until a few minutes later, I was unable to sleep. All I felt was a strong pull and spark coursing through my vein as I stared into the darkness. Her breaths, the sound of her heartbeat, I could feel the rhythm. She was just as nervous as I was. With every second that passed, the pull only got stronger. My wolf wanted more, to hold her in my arms, to bask in her warmth and alluring jasmine scent. I thought I could fight these impulses, but in the next moment, we both turned sharply to face each other, still separated by a distance. Our eyes glued like magnets and the awkward tension was as loud as a club party. “I—“ we both said at the same time and then we smiled. “I never said goodnight,” I mumbled. “I wanted to do the same too,” she answered in a whisper. “Goodnight, Amy.” “Goodnight, Logan,” she answered and slowly turned to the other side. I believe I should finally be at rest but it was even worse! She was like honey and having a taste alone wasn’t enough. My teeth gritted in frustration, why was I losing control of myself?! Yet I liked it so much! My chest started to heave up and down in a heavy manner while I kept staring at her back. I didn’t know how much time had lingered, perhaps minutes or an hour, but I was unable to take this punishment anymore, and without thinking twice, I shifted closer to her till our hips touched and our legs clinched underneath the blanket. She shuddered while my breaths escaped in short periods. “Logan,” she moaned while I inhaled deeply, lost in her jasmine scent. “I thought I told you not to come any closer.” “I just wanted to check if you’re getting better,” I replied and immediately felt stupid. “I am.” “I guess I should return to my position,” I said, even though deep down, I just wanted to remain close to her. “You say that, yet your hand—-“ her voice trailed off as realization struck me. My hand had curled around her waist. I exhaled deeply, forcing every nerve in me to go back, but I remained glued to her. “I’m sorry,” I whispered while I slowly drifted from her. “You can stay,” she immediately responded. “It’s a little bit cold.” I smiled. Although I couldn’t see her expression, I could bet she was also feeling the same. And so, with pride and fulfillment, I curled my arm around her waist back, letting my chest grind against her back. The last time I had ever felt this way was with Charlotte. No, this was even better, and even though I felt like I was disrespecting my love for Charlotte, I still chose to cuddle with my mate. “Night night,” I whispered, and this time, I could finally sleep peacefully. So I thought until Amy started shaking violently in my grasp. “Mom!” She exclaimed in her sleep, “No, Mom!!” “Amy! Hey,” I quickly sat up, trying to calm her, but she pulled away from me instead as if she was being chased in her nightmare. “Amy!” I quickly tapped her shoulder, holding her tight so she wouldn’t fall from the bed. “I’m here,” I hushed. “I’m here, Amy. I’ve got you, love,” only then did her eyes open. Her breaths gradually began to even out. I embraced her, and she rested her head on my chest while she wrapped her arms around my waist. “It is just a nightmare,” I whispered, and she heaved a deep sigh. I glanced at the wall clock on the wall opposite us. It was just past three. I patted her hair gently, wondering if I should ask her, but then I decided against it. It was better for her to find comfort in the silence than talking about it. When the morning came, I quickly left the bed to prepare some tea for her, and as I got to the room with a tray in hand, she was awake, sitting up on the bed, enjoying the view from the transparent wall. “Morning,” I greeted. “Morning,” she answered, her countenance lacking her usual morning glow. I placed the tray on my thighs while I sat beside her. “How are you feeling?” She sighed while her eyes wandered to the wall again. “Here,” I handed her the small cream cup housing a brown liquid. Her brows arched into a small frown. “It’s not the same as last night. This one is different.” I remarked, and only then did she take the cup. She hummed with a tiny smile after a sip, and I smiled too. “It helps with stress. My mother used to make it for me when I lost my father. I thought it would help after your nightmare.” Another sigh escaped her breath, “Thank you.” “What did you see?” She took another sip before handing me the cup. “Ten years ago, how my Pack had been destroyed.” I held her right hand, gently stroking it. My lips parted, but before I could say anything, a knock graced the door. “Come in,” I said, and Oliver sauntered in. “Good morning. I hope I’m not intruding?” He asked, maintaining his distance from the bed. “Not at all,” I replied. “What’s up?” He stared at Amy for a while. “I got news about the Rogues that attacked.” Amy stiffened immediately. “Our men managed to capture one of them; the rest were not lucky to survive.” “What?” She gasped. “In an hour or so, the Rogue should have landed in our Pack. So whenever you two are ready, we can deal with him.” I glanced at Amy, whose eyes had hints of tears. She was losing it again, and it angered me greatly. On the one hand, I was worried about her, and on the other, I was plotting the most gruesome death I would give to that bastard!
