The morning sunlight streamed through the large windows of the family estate, casting a warm glow across the marble floors. Amelia walked briskly through the hallways, her thoughts consumed by the sight she had witnessed earlier. Kimberly, looking disheveled and nervous, had hurriedly left William’s room. Amelia’s heart pounded with a mix of jealousy and concern.
As she approached the study where William usually spent his mornings, she steeled herself for the confrontation. Pushing open the heavy wooden door, she found William seated at his desk, buried in documents. He looked up, surprised and then wariness flickering across his face.
“Amelia, what’s going on?” he asked, setting his papers aside.
She closed the door behind her, her expression a mix of determination and hurt.
