Time passed, second by second.
Madison sat in a chair in the front yard. The table in front of her was filled with various food items.
On another chair sat the little girl. She held an apple in her small hands, nibbling at it cautiously while keeping a wary eye on them.
"You have a lot of negative energy on you," Madison said.
The little girl continued eating.
"This negative energy doesn't belong to you, and it's not caused by guilt."
Still, the girl was munching away.
"You—"
"That's not how you talk to a child." Ian walked over, his voice gentle as he said to the little girl, "Hey, sweetie, can you tell me where all the negative energy on you comes from?"
The little girl didn't even look up as she nibbled away at the apple. Ian was about to try again when Ethan approached.
Now that they were far from the hospital and Rebecca, that lingering sense of dread had faded somewhat. He said, "Back when I first started out, I was on a kids' TV show. Let me try…"
