Chapter 8

Now that Ruby has suddenly returned to the country, if Michael Carter finds out that Nora is just an imposter, will he still be so kind to her? "No way!" She might make Michael Carter completely angry because of her deception, and then it would be difficult for him to live in the capital city. Nora would never let that happen! After dinner, Michael Carter asked the driver to drop Nora back to the villa. When Nora got out of the car, she shyly invited Michael, "Michael, let's go inside and sit for a while?” “There’s no need. I have some work to do right now,” Michael refused coldly. "It's too late. I'm scared to stay alone in such a big house. Can you stay with me?” Nora had decided in her mind that as long as she got a chance to be in the same room with Michael, half her work would be done. "I'll ask Aunt Linda to stay with you," Michael said, arching an eyebrow. "But I want you to stay with me," Nora stepped forward and took his hand, drawing light circles on his palm with her index finger, an unspoken hint in her eyes. Both being adults, Michael understood what she meant very well. Still, Michael refused again with a tired face. “If you really want something, you can do it next time." Nora watched Michael leave, hiding her disappointment. Such a unique person would not easily fall under her control. Next time, she would have to prepare better so that Michael Carter would bow down to her! Next day.. Ruby got up early in the morning and chose a set of clothes for her son. After tidying up everything, she took a taxi to the Smith Family mansion. In the Smith family, Layla had already ordered all of Hazel's favorite dishes to be prepared. She didn't care about anyone else. The servant said with some hesitation, "The master specifically said that First Miss likes sweet and sour pork ribs. They have already been bought. Don't they need to be cooked?” Hearing this special attention from her husband, Layla burst out in anger. She snapped, “Do this, put lots of chillies in them. The little bitch will burn to death!” The servants went into the kitchen without saying anything and started their work. Meanwhile, Hazel came back from outside and muttered sadly, “Mom, is that little bitch really coming for dinner?” Layla said in an angry tone, "All this is happening because of your father. He is the one who invited him for dinner.” Hazel said disdainfully, “I don’t know how she is now. She left home at nineteen, didn't finish college, and doesn't have a good degree. What else can she do?” Agreeing with Hazel, Layla said, “She has done badly, and now she wants to come back and fight for the property." "But we won't let him do that! We have a right to father's earnings, only we mother and daughter!" Layla said firmly. "Don't even think about it.” Hazel resolved and said, "Then I'll go up and put on a new dress." Her intention was to completely humiliate Ruby and prove that she was the most loved one in the Smith family. James waited at the gate. It had been five years, and he had not seen his daughter in all that time. He waited every day for her return. Finally, a taxi stopped in front of the door. When the door opened, a slender figure got out of the car. James looked carefully. Wasn't that his daughter? He immediately went to her. Just as he was about to say something, he saw a little boy jump out of the car. He stood there, shocked. Ruby got out of the car with her son in her arms. As soon as she turned her head, she saw her old father. Five long years had passed, and he looked older than ever. Ruby could clearly see a few strands of gray in his hair. She went to him with her son and said excitedly, "Dad, I'm back.” After this he held his son's hand and said, "Son, hurry up. This is your grandfather. Call him grandpa.” Aaron looked at the man standing in front of him with his big eyes and said with some confusion, "Hello, Grandpa.” "Grandpa?" James suddenly looked startled and asked in surprise, "Ruby, is this your child?” "Yes, his name is Aaron, and he's my son. He turned four this year," Ruby purposely changed his age a bit so no one would guess the truth. "Four years old! This kid is so tall." James couldn't believe his eyes. The more he saw his grandson, the more he liked him. Then he looked at the taxi and asked, "Where is the child's father?” "He's… still overseas. He wasn't able to come back with us this time," Ruby answered casually. James looked at his daughter, her eyes were red. He realized that Ruby must have been through a lot over the years. "It was my fault. Ruby, I was too impulsive. I'll make up for this," James said, his voice full of guilt. "Dad, Aaron and I are doing well. You don't need to feel guilty," Ruby gently comforted him. "Aaron, this baby is so cute. Come let Grandpa give you a hug," James lovingly lifted him into his lap. Ruby went inside with her father. Sitting in the living room, Layla saw her husband holding a small baby in his arms and asked in surprise, "Honey, whose baby is this?” "This is Ruby's son. She was overseas for many years," James replied, hugging his grandson happily. James did not see any difference between daughters and sons, but having two daughters in a row, he always felt the lack of a son. Now his grandson had become the greatest treasure for him. Layla was shocked and said, "What? This little bitch actually gave birth to a baby?" "Auntie Layla!" Ruby greeted her politely. Then Layla noticed and said in a strange tone, "You gave birth to a child without telling me anything! I was really scared. Where is the child's father? Why didn't he come with you?” "Ruby came alone," James replied. Layla immediately became suspicious. She thought Ruby had returned with the intention of usurping the house's property, and she had brought her little helper along. Seeing James' affection towards his grandson, Layla became confident that James might hand over more wealth to her in the future. "Ruby, you're really strong. Raising a child all by yourself," Layla said with a fake smile. Aaron saw her fake smile and asked in confusion, "Who are you?" Layla looked at him and said, "I'm your grandmother." Aaron immediately replied, "Mommy told me Grandma was dead. Don't lie!” Aaron did not like Layla's face at all, especially when she was taunting his mother. He decided that anyone who troubles his mother is his enemy. "This kid is really rude. Ruby, you should teach him a lesson," Layla said sardonically. "Auntie Layla, you don't need to worry about my son," Ruby replied coldly, ignoring Layla's words.
