Chapter Eighty Five: A Desperate Attempt
"There is," Layla opposed, and she leaned back into her chair, planting her palms down on either sides of her frame.
"Mama! Papa!" Derek danced on Canaan's laps, still in the mood to play.
"I'm just gonna sit here. You two should keep playing if you feel up to it," Layla said, waving them off.
"Okay," Canaan said, rising from his seat.
Several hours later, Canaan decided that they should call it a day.
Layla had joined in the fun as well when she had relaxed enough.
The three took turns at singing karaoke. Derek's time was the funniest moment.
He wouldn't allow any other person to take the mic from him although he was getting the lyrics all wrong.
"I had so much fun today, Canaan. Thank you," Layla told Canaan when they prepared to leave, smiling at him.
"I'm glad I could make you happy."
Layla narrowed one eye. "Mmn."
"Will you ride home with me?"
"No. We will go with my driver."
Canaan was silent for some minutes. "Are you still trying to avoid me, Layla?"
