As the hours crept by, Emily's anticipation grew, her heart hammering in her chest. The rain continued to fall, the thunder clapping in the distance like a promise of things to come.

Emily's thoughts turned darker still, her mind spiraling down a twisted path. "After all," she whispered to herself, her voice low and dangerous, "you can't love a ghost, can you, Daniel? Once Juliet is gone, you'll have no choice but to turn to me, to lean on me, to need me."
