"Send her in," Greg Webster’s deep voice resonated from inside the room. Lia, the maid, obediently opened the door for Xina, holding it until she walked inside, and then gently closed it behind her.
Xina glanced around the study. Nothing had changed. The air was still thick with the scent of leather- bound books and Greg's cologne, familiar yet stifling. The certificates of achievements that Gaia had earned hung proudly on the wall, their arrangement untouched. None of Xina’s accolades were present, which didn’t surprise her in the least.
But that was fine. Xina had long since accepted her place in the Webster family. She had made peace with her standing and no longer felt disappointed or neglected by these obvious slights.
"Sit," Greg commanded, motioning toward the chair in front of him. His sharp eyes tracked Xina's movements carefully as she approached.
