Somehow, Xina had this misguided notion that if she avoided eye contact with this strange man, he wouldn’t be able to read her thoughts. Unfortunately, she was mistaken…
“Even if you close your eyes, it won’t prevent me from reading your mind, love,” Gary said softly, his eyes full of affection as he watched her slowly open her eyes again, realizing her error.
Xina blinked, confusion clear in her gaze. “I saw you… you were a white dog… but then human…” Her words stumbled out, a jumbled reflection of the confusion swirling in her mind. “What are you?”

Gary nearly forgot this moment—Xina was convinced she’d seen a dog instead of a wolf. In the past, it would have annoyed him, but now, it was almost amusing. A trip down memory lane, recalling the little things that once brought him frustration but now made him smile.
