CHAPTER SEVENTY ONE –FACING THE TRUTH
As they rode the elevator up to the penthouse, Karina's mind whirled. What had Miguel meant? And why did the thought make her heart race?
Inside the apartment, Miguel loosened his tie, heading straight for the bar. "Nightcap?" he offered.
Karina shook her head. "I should probably go. It's late, and we both have early meetings tomorrow."
Miguel set down the glass he'd been about to fill. "Karina, wait. We should talk about... about what's happening between us."
Karina froze, her hand on the doorknob. Slowly, she turned to face him. "And what exactly is happening between us, Miguel?"
He ran a hand through his hair, a gesture she'd come to recognize as a sign of his frustration. "I don't know. But I think we both know it's more than just a business arrangement now."
Karina's heart pounded. "Miguel, we can't... this isn't real. It's all for show, remember?"
Miguel stepped closer, his dark eyes intense. "Is it? Because I'm having a hard time remembering that when I'm with you."
