CHAPTER SIXTY TWO – A SPARK OF CHEMISTRY
The next morning, Karina woke early, her conversation with Elena still weighing heavily on her mind. She made her way down to the kitchen, surprised to find Miguel already there, nursing a cup of coffee.
"Good morning," she said hesitantly, pouring herself a cup.
Miguel looked up, and Karina was struck by how tired he looked. Had he slept at all? "Good morning," he replied, his voice rough.
They sat in awkward silence for a moment, each lost in their own thoughts. Finally, Miguel spoke.
"Karina, we need to talk."
Karina's heart leapt into her throat. This was it. "I agree," she said softly.
Miguel opened his mouth to continue, but before he could, his phone buzzed loudly. He glanced at it, his expression darkening.
"It's the office," he said, frustration evident in his voice. "There's an emergency with one of our major accounts. I have to go in."
Karina nodded, trying to hide her disappointment. "Of course. We can talk later."
