Miguel broke the silence first. "I... I didn't expect to see you here."
Karina straightened her shoulders. "I was just taking a walk. Clearing my head."
Miguel stepped closer, his eyes searching her face. "Karina, please. Can we talk? Really talk?"
She hesitated, then nodded. They found a nearby bench and sat down, an uncomfortable distance between them.
"I know what you're doing," Miguel began, his voice low. "The investigation, the meetings with lawyers. Karina, you don't understand the full picture."
Karina felt anger flare in her chest. "Then explain it to me, Miguel. Explain how the man I thought I knew could be involved in something like this."
Miguel ran a hand through his hair, frustration evident on his face. "It's not that simple. The things I've done... they were necessary. For the company, for the people who depend on us."
