CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SIX – ALMOST THE VERY MOMENT
"Well," Karina said, a nervous laugh escaping her, "this is certainly one way to liven up a party."
Miguel chuckled, his hand still holding hers. "Indeed. Though I must say, the view out here is much better than in there."
Karina felt her heart skip a beat at his words. She turned to face him fully, suddenly very aware of how close they were standing.
"Miguel," she said softly, "what are we doing?"
He stepped closer, his free hand coming up to cup her cheek. "I don't know," he admitted. "But I can't seem to stay away from you, Karina."
The air between them crackled with tension. Karina found herself leaning in, drawn by an invisible force. Miguel's eyes dropped to her lips, and for a moment, it seemed inevitable that they would kiss.
But just as their lips were about to meet, the lights in the ballroom flickered back to life. The spell was broken, and they jumped apart as if burned.
"We should... we should get back," Karina said, her voice shaky.
