CHAPTER NINETY ONE – THROUGH THE MAZE
"Go!" Henry rasped, his voice strained. "Get out of here. Now!"
"Leave you? Never!" Scarlett screamed, her voice raw with a mixture of fear and defiance. Panic threatened to consume her, but she pushed it down. Henry was free with one arm, they just needed to get the other one loose.
Her eyes darted around the cramped cell, landing on a rusty bucket lying overturned in the corner. Ignoring the grime, she grabbed it, the metal cold against her shaking hands. With a primal roar, she swung it at the chain securing Henry's left wrist, the blunt impact sending a jarring jolt through her arm.
But it wasn't enough. Tears of frustration stung her eyes as she continued to pound the chain with the bucket, the metallic clangs echoing through the cell.
Then, inspiration struck. In the guard's holster, half-concealed by his fallen body, lay a glint of black metal – a submachine gun. Her heart hammered against her ribs, but her fear was eclipsed by a fierce determination.
