CHAPTER SIXTY SIX – HENRY’S STRNAGE BEHAVIOUR
"Heading out for the night, sir?" She cringed inwardly at how painfully bright and forced her tone sounded.
Henry glanced up at her approach, his expression unreadable for a beat. Then the ghost of a smile curved his lips as he appraised her with depthless emerald eyes.
"Indeed. I don't believe I'll be staying late this evening." The way he drew out the last two words, husky and weighted, raised every hair on the back of Scarlett's neck.
She offered up a jerky nod, rooted to the spot as an odd wariness slithered through her veins like icy sludge. "Ah, right. Well then. Goodnight, Mr. Davies."
Her instincts screamed at her to turn on her heel and flee while she had the chance, but she remained frozen under the intensity of his appraisal. Henry took a single, measured step towards her, hands hanging loosely at his sides.
"Don't I merit a goodnight embrace from my favorite girl at the end of a long day?" He arched one brow in playful challenge.
