CHAPTER FORTY EIGHT – RESTING UP IN THE HOSPITAL
As the door closed behind him, a quiet settled over the room, a comfortable silence punctuated only by the rhythmic beeping of the monitor.
Dr. Wilson placed a comforting hand on Scarlett's arm. "We'll get through this, Scarlett," she said, her voice filled with warmth.
Scarlett squeezed her hand back, a wave of gratitude washing over her. She had faced a nightmare, but she hadn't faced it alone.
Scarlett stirred awake, the sterile white ceiling of the hospital room coming into focus. A wave of relief washed over her as she saw Dr. Wilson wasn't alone.
Clara sat beside her, her face etched with worry, but a bright smile bloomed as Scarlett's eyes fluttered open.
"Scarlett!" Clara exclaimed, her voice filled with relief. "You're finally awake! You had us all worried sick."
Scarlett croaked a weak smile. "Sorry for the scare," she rasped, her throat dry.
Clara squeezed her hand gently. "Don't be silly. Just focus on getting better, okay?"
