CHAPTER TWENTY TWO – FORGIVING AN EX LOVER
The late afternoon sun cast long shadows as Scarlett left the hospital. Relief mingled with the lingering scent of disinfectant as she finally stepped out onto the sidewalk. Inhaling the crisp evening air, she stretched, the tightness in her shoulders loosening.
Halfway home, the rumble of a familiar engine caught her ear. She glanced over her shoulder to see a sleek black car pull up beside her. The passenger window rolled down, revealing a face that brought a wave of conflicting emotions – Trent.
"Scarlett?" he called out, a hesitant smile playing on his lips. "Fancy meeting you here."
Scarlett's eyes narrowed. "Trent. What a surprise," she said dryly, her voice laced with a touch of sarcasm. She kept walking, hoping he'd get the hint.
His car nudged forward, keeping pace with her stride. "Come on, don't be like that. Can't a guy catch up with an old friend?"
"We haven't exactly been friends, Trent," Scarlett countered, her voice clipped. "Six years is a long time."
He chuckle
