Marrying the Lockwood\'s Son (Part 10)
"Sure. Whatever you said," Adeline glared at Evelyn in annoyance. But she wasn't really mad at Evelyn.
"You've done enough shopping for today, but now my stomach is grumbling."
Evelyn stuck out her tongue and said sheepishly, "Let's go and get some food then."
At the Calories Restaurant...
The two of them chatted while walking hand in hand into the restaurant. They found a table at a quiet corner.
"Good day, miss. What would you like for today?" The waiter handed them the menu and asked politely.
"What do you want to eat, Adele?" Evelyn pushed the menu to Adele's front.
"Evelyn, you should order. I only want a medium steak," Adeline ordered and turned to look at the outside of the window.
Evelyn took a deep look at Adeline, picked up the menu, and ordered two of their favorite dishes.
"That'll be all!" Evelyn closed the menu and said to the waitress with a smile.
"Adele..."
Adeline turned around and looked at Evelyn. With a smile, she asked, "Yes, what's the matter?"
"What are you hiding from me, Adele?"
Adeline was sad hearing the question from Evelyn. However, she hid it fast enough so that Evelyn didn't notice anything.
"No, there isn't. Even if there is, it's only that my dad's company isn't doing well financially. But he said that it's all settled."
Adeline grinned at Evelyn as if nothing was amiss.
"If you said so. Anyway, I've done the procedures to study abroad. I'll be heading off in three days," Evelyn looked devastated when she said that.
"Adele, I don't want to leave you."
"Don't you always want to study abroad? You should be glad now that your uncle is letting you go," Adeline said.
Evelyn looked at Adeline. Her lips moved but she couldn't bring herself to say what she wanted.
The two of them sat in silence, not a word from either.
The only thing they heard was the sweet music playing in the quiet restaurant.
At a corner of the restaurant, a man spoke, and his voice was ice cold.
"Do it nicely. And it's best to let her—" The cunning smug made the man look wicked on top of his handsomeness.
"Christiano, don't blame me. Blame yourself for dragging everyone down with you even when you're bedridden."
......
"Adele, let me send you home!"
"No need, Evelyn. I'll grab a taxi. Why don't you go home first? You must have a lot to attend to since you're going abroad in a few days."
Adeline didn't want to go home this early, so she refused Evelyn's kindness.
Evelyn didn't force it on Adeline, so she said goodbye and left.
Caulford City after night fell was very happening. The lights lit up the city, and cars filled the roads. The city itself looked like a majestic palace from the top.
"Darling, we're going to get married the day after tomorrow. I'm so nervous!" said a young woman.
A young man affectionately brushed the young woman's nose and coddled her.
"Silly goose, I'll be at your side."
The young woman smiled happily at the young man by her side.
"Yes! It's good to have you always by my side."
Watching that, Adeline felt a stab at her heart. She couldn't help but compare herself to others. The other girl could be married to the man she loved, but she needed to marry a stranger.
As she strolled along, Adeline suddenly found herself in a quiet alley. When she realized that she was in danger, it was already too late.
