Outside, the wind howled fiercely. Grace's pale, slender hands rested on her lower abdomen, her gaze distant.
Charles had told her that the doctor discovered she was pregnant!
Now was not the time to have a child.
Teresa steeled herself as she looked at Grace, whose eyes were empty and devoid of any will to live.
"Grace."
It took a moment for Grace to come back to her senses. She turned her head and replied, "Yes?"
Teresa's eyes were red, and her aged hands gently brushed away the stray hair beside Grace's face. "Grace, I have no children and have always considered you as my daughter. I don't need you to live a wealthy and successful life. You being healthy is enough! How can I live if my only daughter dies?"
Grace narrowed her eyes. She saw Teresa pick up a fruit knife.
"I raised you until you were ten and couldn't be with you after that. It's all my fault. I'll go and apologize to Mr. Mitchell Senior now…"
After saying this, Teresa took the knife and cut her wrist.
A chill
