When I left the hospital, it was already 3:00 p.m. The lawyer had taken care of dropping the case. After Ethan picked up Leah, he sent me a photo. I looked at the photo on my phone momentarily and then locked the screen.
I wasn't interested in what Ethan and Leah were doing next. I didn't care about their plans anymore.
What mattered to me now was getting my grandmother with me so she could spend her remaining years in peace and good health.
I put my phone in my bag, wrapped my wool coat tighter around myself, and tried to hail a taxi to return to school.
