Leonardo drove back around, and we soon picked up Beanie from a spot nearby.
The moment Beanie spotted me, its tail wagged furiously. Yet it whimpered softly as if pouring out all its grievances and asking why I had left it behind for so long. Its big, tearful eyes locked onto mine, tugging at my heart.
I leaned down and pressed my face against its head.
Leonardo, on the other hand, watched me through the rear-view mirror.
Pretending not to notice, I spoke up calmly, "Could you drop me off near the subway station up ahead?"
"Is it really convenient to take the subway with a dog? Where are you headed? I can give you a lift. Hans Bay, maybe?" he asked tentatively.
Hans Bay was where Gideon's villa was and also where Leonardo's parents lived. It surprised me that he remembered picking me up from there that morning.
"No need. The subway station is fine," I replied flatly.
However, Leonardo wasn't ready to drop the subject. "Whose place were you staying at in Hans Bay last night?
