A knock on the door startled her as she tried to force herself to sleep as she closed her eyes. With her heart racing in her chest, she sat up. When she opened it, she saw Jake standing there with an expression that was impossible to read but suggested a deeper feeling in his eyes. His gaze swept over her face as he looked at her. “Jake?” “Are you still mad at me?" Ella paused as Jake asked in a quiet but meaningful tone. She leaned against the doorframe and folded her arms. “Why don't you tell me Jake?" she asked in a provocative tone. “You’re the one that hears thoughts anyways. Go on then” Ella's heart skipped a beat as Jake's lips curled into a small smile. He stepped closer, his presence suddenly overwhelming in the small space between them. "Your thoughts are saying you want something else entirely," Jake said, his voice lowering to a low murmur. His eyes locked on hers, sending a shiver down her spine. The tension between them crackled in a way Ella couldn't ignore.
