DAPHNE'S POV
Focus, Daph," he had whispered in my ear, his voice low and teasing. "You're supposed to be learning."
"Easy for you to say," I had retorted, trying to ignore the way my heart was racing. "You're not the one being distracted by someone breathing down your neck."
He had chuckled, his hands tightening slightly on mine. "Okay, let's try again. This time, keep your eyes on the target."
I had taken a deep breath, trying to steady my hands. With Javion's guidance, I had managed to pull the string back and release the arrow.
It had flown straight and true, hitting the target with a satisfying thud.
"I did it!" I had exclaimed, turning to look at Javion, who was beaming with pride.
"I knew you could," he had said, his eyes sparkling. "See? You're a natural."
"Only because I had the best teacher," I had replied, smiling up at him.
We had spent the rest of the afternoon practicing, and I had gradually gotten better. But, as usual, our training session had quickly turned in
