CHAPTER FORTY SEVEN – LOUD OUTBURSTS
"I haven't stolen anything," Joan said, trying to edge towards the door. "Vito and I-"
"Vito and you nothing!" Lena screamed, grabbing Joan's arm. "He was mine! We had a life planned together before you came along with your perfect little smile and your big dreams!"
Joan tried to pull away, but Lena's grip was like iron. "Lena, you're hurting me. Please, let go-"
"Hurting you?" Lena laughed, a high, unhinged sound. "You have no idea what hurt is. But I'll show you. I'll make you feel every bit of pain you've caused me!"
Lena raised her hand, and for a terrifying moment, Joan thought she was about to be struck. But suddenly, a familiar voice cut through the chaos.
"That's enough, Lena!"
Vito pushed through the crowd of onlookers, his face a mask of anger and concern. He grabbed Lena's wrist, forcing her to release Joan.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Vito demanded, positioning himself between Joan and Lena.
