CHAPTER FORTY FOUR –EVERYONE’S A CRITIC
Joan tried to regain her composure, but Dr. Wallace's interruption had thrown her off balance. As she continued her presentation, she could feel his critical gaze boring into her. Every few minutes, he would interject with another pointed question or snide remark, each one chipping away at her confidence.
By the time Joan finished, she felt thoroughly defeated. The polite applause from her peers seemed hollow in the wake of Dr. Wallace's criticisms.
As the seminar concluded, Joan gathered her things, eager to escape. But Dr. Wallace approached her, his face a mask of false concern.
"Ms. Keppler, a word?"
Joan steeled herself, forcing a polite smile. "Of course, Dr. Wallace."
He led her to a quiet corner of the room. "I couldn't help but notice some... shortcomings in your presentation."
Joan took a deep breath, trying to keep her voice steady. "I appreciate your feedback, Dr. Wallace. I'll take your comments into consideration as I refine my proposal."
