"So," Joan said, trying to break the ice, "how long have you been working here, Carla?"
Carla's expression softened slightly. "About a year. It's not a bad gig, when the customers aren't being ridiculous and the kitchen isn't messing up orders."
Joan nodded sympathetically. "I remember those days. Anything in particular that's been challenging lately?"
Carla sighed, her tough exterior cracking a bit. "Honestly? All these new menu items. Half the time, I don't even know how to describe the vegan options to customers. And don't get me started on the gluten-free crust. It's like trying to sell cardboard as a delicacy."
Joan couldn't help but chuckle. "Yeah, I can imagine that's tough. Maybe we could put together a cheat sheet for the servers? Something with quick descriptions and selling points for the new items?"
Carla looked at Joan with newfound respect. "That... actually might be helpful. You're not just here to bark orders, are you?"
Joan shook her head. "Nope. I'm here to work
