“Who’s at the door?” Yvonne asked softly.
Emma quickly ran to the door, peering at the screen to see who was outside.
“This person looks so familiar,” Emma tilted her head, trying hard to remember.
“Is it Marcus?” Yvonne guessed.
“That’s him.” Emma recalled and swung the door open. She stared at Marcus with a look of disdain, her eyes blazing with anger.
Marcus was caught off guard by Emma’s sudden hostility. He stood at the door, thinking for a moment before hesitantly saying, “Emma?”
“How can you steal your best friend’s girl?” Emma asked sternly, her serious expression almost comical.
Marcus chuckled, gently pinching Emma’s cheek. “You really are on your uncle’s side, huh? I didn’t steal anything.”
He shook his head helplessly; this little girl was wise beyond her years, talking about “best friends” and “stealing”—what a tangled web.
