Jamie, the butler, looked troubled all the time ever since he'd learned that Callie had moved abroad instead of running away from home.
When Callie was around, she would defend the house staff if they made mistakes. Spencer would take the matter lightly if she spoke up for them.
In her absence, the house staff suffered. For some reason, Spencer looked frustrated and disagreeable for the past few days.
The chef bore the brunt of his wrath when no soup was prepared for breakfast. The chef, rushing to get the soup ready, grumbled under his breath, "Ms. Rhodes is not around, and it's not like you even love eating soups. Of course, I didn't have it prepared!"
When the gardener pruned the two trees in the courtyard, Spencer docked two months of his pay. The gardener could not wrap his head around the situation and believed he had done nothing wrong. Callie had planted those two trees. Before she'd left, she repeatedly reminded him to prune them for better growth.
