Evelyn’s PoV
It had been days since I learned the truth: I was wolfless. A defect. An outcast. That knowledge weighed me down and it made me feel like I was isolated from the rest of the world. I had distant myself from my mother, Marcus, and even Rachel. The feeling of being cursed, of being a loser, weighed me down and I couldn’t bear it.
For long hours, I remained on the edge of the camp with averted eyes, and a concerned face. But Marcus found me. Sitting on a tree trunk, daydreaming, the sound of his voice jerked me back to reality.
“Evelyn,” he said my name again.
When I looked down, he was climbing up. I could see worry on his face. “What do you want, Marcus?”
“To talk,” he said, sitting a few inches away from me. “You have been hiding from everyone, particularly me.”
“Perhaps that is because I require liberty,” I retorted, folding my arms across my chest.
Marcus sighed, coming closer to me. “It does not matter that you need space, Evelyn. I wanna hold your hand. I wanna hug you
