Mable was shocked she would care about Blair and laughed at herself for it. Blair was probably sad because Nicki was sick. Blair touched Mable’s face and said in a low voice, “Mabes, why are you laughing?” Mable did not answer, slapped his hand away, and turned her back to him. Blair was silent for a while. Then he went to the bathroom. When Mable heard the shower running, she frowned, sat up, and turned on the light.
