Chapter 28
Lucy's POV
The cave's heart chamber was vast, its walls covered in flowing script that seemed to write and rewrite itself continuously. Felix studied the nearest section while I moved deeper into the space.
"Be careful," he called. "Some of these writings are traps. Don't read anything too closely unless—"
"Unless what?" I turned back to him, but he was frozen, staring at something behind me.
"Lucy... don't move."
Of course, I turned to look. The wall directly in front of me was different from the others. The writing there wasn't flowing – it was fixed, burning with a light that seemed to reach for me.
"Can you read it?" I asked, taking a step closer.
"Lucy, don't—"
But it was too late. The words caught me, held me. They weren't in any language I knew, but somehow I understood:
"To she who bears ghost walker blood and seer sight, who has loved and lost and chosen truth over power – the mark seeks its vessel. The vessel seeks its mark. Let what was written be written again."
