At the pool hall, Chris missed the shot as all the balls scattered across the table.
Derick shook his hand while wiping his cue. "Has Madeline not replied to your message or contacted you?"
Chris remained silent. Derick aimed at the most awkwardly positioned ball on the table. With a sharp sound, the ball traced a beautiful arc across the table and dropped into a pocket.
"It doesn't make sense. She didn't seem to care when you spoke to her like that and didn't argue with you. Why is she being so stubborn this time?" Derick was puzzled.
Chris thought about the time Madeline had come to play pool. "What did she ask you when she came the other day?"
Derick sank another ball in with a casual shot. He gracefully sat on the pool table and lined up another shot, sinking the ball in perfectly again.
"I've already told you. She asked if anything happened between you, Jewel, and Ian when you were in school. I told her truthfully that nothing had happened. So, her leaving has nothing to do
