As Jasmine made her way to the terrace, she caught Marco's eye across the room. He gave her an almost imperceptible nod, silently communicating that he had her back. The cool night air was a welcome relief from the stuffy ballroom. Jasmine approached the railing, standing a few feet away from Senator Thompson, who was alone and nursing a glass of scotch.
