This was Shelmaine's workplace, and with Beatrix and others just outside, she felt embarrassed.
Samuel, however, seemed indifferent to her discomfort, almost relishing in their entanglement. His fingers swept back her damp hair, exposing her pale face, and he kissed her lips tenderly, though his actions were anything but gentle.
Soon, Shelmaine stopped responding altogether. Curled up in his arms, her tears had dried, and she felt like an empty shell—a puppet for him to manipulate as he wished.
Samuel, though not fully satisfied, had vented his anger. He wanted her to understand that in life, choices and people often change based on circumstances and self-interest.
