Seeing Shelmaine finally react, Samuel's smile deepened, his previously stern features relaxing into a carefree playboy's image. It was a far cry from the refined, gentle man he once was.
To Shelmaine, this version of him felt unsettlingly unfamiliar. Her stomach churned as she caught sight of that smile. "Samuel, can you stop this?"
"No," he replied, unbothered.
"What are you trying to do?" she demanded.
"Isn't it obvious?"
Shelmaine's face grew pale, her stomach twisting painfully. She had drunk earlier, and now the alcohol, combined with her rising anxiety, made her feel nauseous. She turned her head, voice strained as she said, "Stop the car."
Noticing her discomfort, Samuel motioned to Samson. "Pull over at the next intersection."
As soon as the car came to a stop, Shelmaine stumbled out and crouched by the roadside, dry-heaving, though nothing came up. The nausea persisted.
Samuel stepped out too, offering her a bottle of water. "Did you really drink that much?"
