Samuel, tall and imposing, looked down at her for what felt like an eternity, saying nothing. In truth, even he didn't know what he truly wanted.
"Samuel, speak," Shelmaine asked again. She pressed her lips together, her patience wearing thin.
Finally, Samuel responded, his voice slow and deliberate, "What do you think I want to do?"
"I don't know, and I don't care," she replied, her tone sharp. "I need to rest, so stop bothering me, alright?"
Without warning, Samuel stepped inside her apartment, forcing her to step back. He slammed the door shut.
He backed her into a corner between the wall and his chest, his eyes boring into hers. "So, are you and Julien doing well? Are you already talking about marriage?"
Shelmaine said nothing, refusing to dignify his question with a response. Instead, she warned him, "Leave. Now."
"Answer me," Samuel demanded.
"And who are you to ask?" Shelmaine retorted. "Are you asking that as Julien's cousin or my ex-husband?"
