The next morning, Nia was startled awake by the sound of hushed voices. She blinked blearily, her gaze landing on a group of doctors huddled around Leon's bed.
"His vitals are stable, and the internal bleeding has stopped. If he continues to improve, we may be able to take him off the ventilator soon."
Nia felt a surge of hope as she sat up, her eyes fixed on Leon's face. "Does that mean he's going to be okay?"
The lead surgeon turned to her, a small smile on his face. "It's still early, but the signs are promising. Mr. Allistair is a fighter."
Nia let out a shaky breath, relief washing over her. "Thank you, doctor. For everything you've done."
The surgeon placed a hand on her shoulder. "You're welcome. Now, why don't you go get some breakfast? I'll have one of the nurses come get you if there's any change."
