CHAPTER TWELVE - A MANAGER'S DEMAND
"Okay, controversial opinion time," Justin said, finishing the last of his cone. "Pineapple on pizza - yes or no?"
Nia wrinkled her nose. "Absolutely not. Fruit doesn't belong on pizza."
Justin gasped in mock horror. "I can't believe you'd say that! Pineapple on pizza is a delicacy!"
"It's an abomination," Nia laughed. "I'm sorry, but I'm judging you pretty hard right now."
"Well, I guess this is where our beautiful friendship ends," Justin sighed dramatically. "It was nice knowing you, Nia."
They both burst out laughing. As their laughter subsided, Nia realized the sun was starting to set, painting the sky in brilliant oranges and pinks.
"Oh wow," she said, "I didn't realize it was getting so late."
Justin checked his watch. "Time flies when you're defending culinary atrocities, I guess. Want me to walk you out?"
Nia nodded, suddenly feeling a bit shy. "Sure, that'd be nice."
They made their way to the park exit, Max padding along beside them. At the gate, they paused awkw
