CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SEVEN - The First Steps Out of Darkness
They chatted for a few minutes about books and travel before Melissa found them.
"I see you've met our resident bookworm," Melissa said warmly. "Tom, this is my friend Nia. She's new in town."
"We've been getting acquainted," Tom said. "Nia, you should stop by the library sometime. We have an even better travel section."
Nia nodded, feeling a small spark of excitement at the idea. "I'd like that. Thank you."
After the bookstore, Melissa led Nia to a quaint café on Main Street. The aroma of freshly baked pastries and coffee enveloped them as they entered.
"Sarah! Two of your famous lattes, please," Melissa called out to the woman behind the counter.
Sarah, a vivacious redhead, grinned at them. "Coming right up, Mel. And who's this lovely lady?"
"This is Nia," Melissa said, guiding Nia to a table by the window. "She's new to our little town."
Sarah brought over their drinks, pausing to chat. "Welcome to Tarrytown, Nia. How are you finding it so far?"
