Chapter 61 Step Out
A lump formed in my throat as I stared at the ring that had been with me for three years. The joy I felt when I first slipped it onto my finger now matched the sorrow weighing on me.
Calvin might never truly understand how I felt, and I'd stopped expecting him to.
"Summer, I'm sorry. I had no idea you had low blood sugar. You must have pawned the ring because you were afraid back then, right?
"I've asked Ms. Lennon to transfer a million dollars to your account, so use it however you need. You don't have to pawn the ring anymore."
Calvin stood up as he looked at me with eyes filled so deep with affection. He even tried to reach out and slip the ring back onto my finger.
But I took a few steps back and remained emotionless. He had only looked for the ring because of what Queenie said, even going so far as to redeem it for me. But he never took the time to find out what illness I was actually dealing with.
I couldn't decide whether to feel relieved or heartbroken. Calvin didn't see
