When we returned to Queenie's rented apartment, I felt much more at ease. Without Calvin's presence, everything seemed so much better.
Queenie busied herself with ordering takeout and washing fruit, making sure I was well-fed and getting enough nutrition.
When she went to buy salmon, I stopped her.
"Don't waste money on salmon. Eggs are just as good, and salmon doesn't have much flavor anyway."

I smiled, genuinely happy.
