I smiled at him as I tied my hair up and grabbed makeup remover, dabbing some on a cotton pad as I watched Morpheus’ confused face. I barely restrained my laughter as he watched my wipe the back of my neck, taking the makeup off which I had used to cover up the mark of the mist.
“What....”
He swallowed his words as he saw the mark in its fullness, running his thumb against the back of my neck gently. I felt the familiar burning sensation I had come to accept, although it had taken me a few days. After I had returned from the Citadel I had stood in front of the mirror, angling my hand mirror so that I could see the back of my neck. The mark really was gorgeous – it resembled a tribal tattoo with thick curving lines intertwining like smoke as they moved upward towards my hairline. It actually resembles a distorted heart and I would have left it uncovered as if it was really a tattoo if it weren’t for two things. One, my mother would kill me and two, it moved. Yes, the lines really did
