"Another time, Mom asked Wendy to fry some potatoes. In the end, she almost burned down the whole kitchen. Since then, nobody in our family has asked her to cook anything again."
Xyla's words were the truth. How could anyone fail so miserably at cooking after growing up on a farm?
Jacob naturally hadn't expected that. Still, he chose to believe in Wendy. "I believe Mr. Sadler won't hire her if she can't cook."
Martha, too, defended Wendy. "That's impossible. Wendy is so quick and efficient and has helped me a lot over the past few days. Just this morning, she washed all of our clothes."
"Did you see her cook, though?" Moira asked solemnly.
That question stumped Martha. Indeed, she had been cooking while Wendy merely helped on the side, washing and dicing up vegetables.
"What nonsense. Sean can kiss his career goodbye if Mr. Sadler and his family become the next victims of her cooking or a burnt kitchen. If things escalate further, our entire family could be implicated."
